Running Routes

One of the fun of running is to explore different routes, master the topography and concur them.
Different scenery, air quality, traffic volume at different time, etc.
It is also a headache part when one have certain distance to cover.
For example, Med-long run 23km, where should I cover? One can repeat a 1km course 23 times, or a 500m course 46 times. And this is unless you found a exact 1km or 500m course. Repeating loops make a boring run.
For runner who don't have fuel belt (like me), another problem is "where is the water station?" Some may hold a water bottle on hand, or one can schedule a route with grocery store half way. Another fun part to plan of.
I always hope for a GPS running watch but don't have one. Therefore I calculate distance of the course by using map from logyourrun.com.
It took some effort to plan your journey, but after some times you'll have your fixed route at every kind of distance, whether it's for recovery, tempo run or long run.
It's always interesting to listen people on "where they run today".
Below I share some of my common routes. I added them up to make up the distance but I listed them separately.

  1. Hi Kent,
Found your blog when I googled for the running distance at Botanical Garden. Thank you very much for posting this very useful information about running.
I notice that all your running shoes are Brooks. Is this your preference or there is some features you particularly like. I'm not a pro but would like to learn about good running shoes as I run more regularly now.

  2. Hi tdaniel, thanks for dropping by.
When I started running my friend introduced Brooks to me. I've been wearing it since then. So far I'm satisfied with it. However, I'm still looking for my best fit. There's no one brand fit all runners, it very depend on person to person. If you would like to start, Brooks will be a good choice.

  3. Hi Kent,
Thanks for your kind reply and advice. I have been casual jogger (not really running) for many years and I used to just buy those common brands like NIKE, New Balance when they were on sale. Last year I got my wife into running and she sort of addicted to it and we have even registered for the 10K open in the coming November Penang Bridge Marathon. That's why I want to check the route distance for our training purpose.
We met Bob, a senior marathon runner, during our regular running session at Botanical Garden. He wears Brooks too and he recommends us to Eng Hoe @ Komtar for Brooks shoes. We visited the shop and my wife managed to get a pair of Brooks Launch at a very special price. I'm wearing Mizuno now and will try Brooks when this pair wears off.
